Athletes

I was explaining to the girls what an athlete is, and we talked about different sports and things.  According to girls, runners aren't athletes, because running isn't hard--at least that's what Jane thinks, Audrey thinks running at school is hard.  And neither is riding a bike.  People who ride bikes are not athletes because that's not hard--"you just push the pedals and go."  I told them that Dave was an athlete.  I tried to explain pole vaulting . . . but they didn't think that was much of a sport either.  :)  I told them that he used to run really really far, and Jane thought that was neat, and Audrey finally agreed that he was an athlete.

We all agreed that I was never an athlete.   But they did agree that maybe having babies is hard--but that's not a sport . . . that's just what mom's do.  I asked them if they thought it was hard to be a mom.  Audrey told me that it was hard to be a mom and easy to be a queen and that I was both.  But that's not necessarily a compliment, because she yells at me, "You're like a queen!!" when I make her do her chores around the house.
