Acting Awt

Dear Hart, I am so sorry for acting out at school today.  Ok.  From Audrey.  To Hart.

Hart is the little boy she sits by in class.  They talk and talk and sometimes get each other in trouble a little bit.  She came home from school yesterday and wrote out this note to him.  I'm not sure if she actually "acted out" yesterday or not--there didn't seem to be any problems when I chatted with her teacher after school.  But there had been some problems earlier in the week, so maybe she was repenting of those.

Vote for Audrey!!

"If I were president, I would help my Mommy do the dishes--and my sisters would help, too.  And I would do my homework every day for my Daddy."  :)

Although her spelling isn't quite as impressive as her artwork, her content is always fantastic!

Lost

Yesterday we had the horrifying experience of losing Claire.  Big sisters opened the front door and didn't decide to tell us that Claire ran out until she was no where to be found.  Some neighbors helped us find her.  She was in the elementary school parking lot.  You can imagine the the horror of the situation well enough.  I'm not going to add more details (I'm trying, actually, to forget it happened), but let's just say big sisters got a good lecture about opening the front door and not catching Claire/telling an adult that she was running away.  And let's just say that Dave and I were a little bit sick to our stomachs over the whole thing, and we pray that it never happens again.

Getting Old

Jane asked me today:

J:  When will I be done with all of my birthdays?

Me: Well, you're never done with your birthdays.  You have them until you're an old old woman, every year.

J:  I don't want to be an old old woman!!!

Me: But I hear being an old old woman is fun.

J: I don't think so, Mom . . . I've seen old old womans.

Me:  Well, don't worry, you won't be an old woman for a loooooooong time.

J:  Good.  I'm just a girl.  With birthdays.  And a bike.

Sorting Seeds

My sweet friend does preschool with Jane twice a week.  Today they're starting their unit on plants.  This is Jane doing her seed sorting activity.  It actually looks kinda hard!  We go pick her up in a few minutes.  I'm curious to see her progress.  This kind of thing is right up Jane's alley.  She's good at sorting and organizing things.

Date Night

These lucky girls went on a date with Daddy tonight to see The Lorax.  They had been talking about it all day, so I'm sure they had a wonderful time (as of right now, they're still not home, but David sweetly emailed this to me . . . see how on-the-ball I am!?!?)

Cute girls.  :)

Ice Cream Truck

Today (just now, actually) the girls discovered the excitement of an ice cream truck coming down the street.  We live in a cul de sac, and although we'd heard the ice cream truck every now and then on the main roads, we figured it wouldn't come our way.  But today, things were in our favor.  It was the last day of school for the week, the weather was gorgeous, we had gone outside to blow bubbles and play, and we'd kept the windows wide open all day--and the perfect way to top it all off was to have the ice cream truck stop right in front of our house.

All the other neighbor kids ran out after we flagged him down.  The girls grabbed their dollars from losing teeth (Audrey has lost 6!) and from birthdays (Jane's was most recent) and rushed out shouting and jumping around pointing at all the treats they wanted.  Part of me wanted to stop them, to have them calm down, be respectable, not be greedy, but the other part of me thought,"This is something every kid has to experience. It's fun and crazy and spontaneous.  And it's something totally new to them.  Don't kill the fun."  Well, I'm glad I listened to the latter part of me.  It was truly delightful to see them have so much fun.  And their excitement lasted all while they ate their treats, gumball eyes and all.  I don't plan on making it a regular thing, but I do think it's important for Moms to occasionally be a little bit "cool" (or some would say "fun").  I suppose this was probably my first chance to be "cool" with my kids . . . well, probably my first chance to be cool since I've been married!  I'm glad I got the opportunity.

Thanks, Ice Cream Man, for making our day with a Sponge Bob popcicle, a Bugs Bunny popcicle, a cherry gumball cone, and a Mississippi Mud ice cream sandwich.  (Audrey ate most of the cherry gumball cone she chose and half of the ice cream sandwich, Claire ate two bites of the Bugs Bunny, and the rest of the ice cream sandwich, Jane relished the Sponge Bob she chose, and I ate most of the Bugs Bunny that Claire chose, but I did get one bite of my ice cream sandwich.)

Some random photos from early marriage

Mesa Falls - 2005?
You know how you can look at pictures from the 70's and know roughly what year they were taken from the hairstyles? This is not one of those photos. Judging from the "hairstyles" (too strong a word), this photo was taken in the future, because at no time in the world's hundred billion year history have the do's seen here ever been stylish.

First ward Halloween party as a married couple. (Do you remember yours?) We still have that little lion, which we so cleverly named Oedipus. All of Audrey's teachers are surprised (disturbed) to hear her talk about her stuffed lion Oedipus. When they ask us about it we just say "it's complex."

David doing the "Kazoo Clown" opener to the plays we were in in Island Park when we first got married. Dave is a handsome guy, but I think we can all agree that the world is actually a worse place when he wears a blonde wig.

Me as Ado Annie in "Oklahoma"

Posing - we're SO CLEVER!

Me, circa 2004.

Christmas 2004. Not a great picture of me. Dave is doing "blue steel" in the background.

Back on the set of Calamity Jane. Dave was so funny in this show. Our camera was obviously terrible.

It looks like I was still wearing makeup when this was taken, so I'm guessing this was right before I got married ;)
