I am sitting here watching Winnie the Pooh with Jane (while Jane plays with the buttons on the TV) and waiting to pick Dave up from school so we can go to the mall and get Audrey some new winter boots. I took her to preschool today and realized that she doesn't fit into her winter boots anymore. She BARELY fits into her snowsuit. I'm hoping it'll work for the rest of the winter. :S
Anyway, what's been going on? Well, a few weeks ago I had a scary experience. I was strapping Jane into her side of the stroller while Audrey was pushing a little cart along the sidewalk--she was loud enough that I could hear her getting a little too far away, so I called for her. When I looked up, she was gone. I assumed she just followed the sidewalk around the side of the building so I followed her. No Audrey. I walked all the way around, by now very scared and yelling loudly. I came around the front and looked down the road and finally heard a faint rumbling sound. I saw that the bus had stopped, and another car had stopped going the other way. And then I had a heart attack. I saw Audrey come pushing her cart down the middle of the street! Around the car and in front of the bus . .. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!! I freaked out and ran as fast as I could to go get her. I took her to the sidewalk and gave her a good scolding. But I was beside myself the rest of the day. It was aweful. I think the worst part is that I can't tell if I got through to her, if she realizes that she can't run away from me like that and that she can never go in the road. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if she'd gone out into the road from behind that dumpster when the bus wouldn't have seen her. I shudder. It was terrible. Really it was. Needless to say, I've been trying to watch her like a hawk whenever we go outside.
In other news, Jane thinks she's big stuff. She wants to walk so badly. Before I knew it, she was pulling up and standing on things, and now she tries to stand without hands. Which usually results in her falling back and bonking her little head. But she keeps trying--with more and more success each time. I just can't believe it. She just seems too little still!! It's so cute and so funny (except when she falls and cries and gets so mad about it).
Speaking of getting mad, Jane has a VERY hot temper. She just gets so mad if things don't go her way. Audrey has a temper now, but it didn't show up this early. I'm a little nervous about when Jane is Audrey's age! Ok, I'm a lot nervous . . .
